UPDATE: 5/10/2013
A bit of a disclaimer: I'm not a professional, and at the time of this update, I have only completed two tails, so I may not be able to answer questions you have. This post is more me sharing my method than a tutorial.
--------
I've gotten some questions from people asking me how I made my yarn tails. I've only made two so far, so it may not be perfect, but it seems to work just fine. My method's a combination of two tutorials I found + what felt right. I figured I'd post this for any who are interested in trying their hand at it. It's pretty easy and fun. I've found a new hobby to do while watching tv.
I used these two tutorials as inspiration:

-First, gather supplies. You need yarn, a slicker brush (www.jemarpet.com/images/Slicke…), and scissors.
-Cut three lengths of yarn a few inches longer than you want the tail to be. These will be the base. Tie a knot at the top and then braid the length of the yarn, tying a knot at the bottom too. Then, take the top and make a loop and tie it, so that you have a loop to feed a belt through.
-Tie another knot at the bottom. Make sure it's thick enough that the yarn you tie around the base won't slide off.
-Next, take the yarn and wrap it around your palm ten times. Cut it off with the scissors. These pieces will be the fur.
-Take two segments of yarn, hold them together (as though they were one unit) and tie them so they are centered around the base. Just one knot is enough.
-Repeat this with the remaining segments of yarn. Turn the tail ¼ turn each time so that the yarn is spaced out evenly.
-Unravel all the yarn.
-Take the slicker brush and brush out the yarn out in sections until it looks like fur and there are no clumps. A lot of fuzz will come off on the brush. This is normal. Then when you are done, brush the fur in the direction you want it to go.
-Repeat these steps until you reach the top of the tail. Then you're done! Feel free to change colors as you go and experiment with patterns.

1. What’s your gender?
nonbinary
2. What are your pronouns?
they/them
3. Is your family accepting?
Mostly! Oddly enough they seemed to have a harder time wrapping their heads around my sexuality than my gender. They mean well but they're a bit off base at times, but they are accepting overall.
4. What do you wish you could tell your past self?
It's ok. You don't have to hide. Come out of the closet sooner, it's worth it!
5. What is your sexuality?
Bisexual
6. Favorite color?
It's such a mood dependent thing! Usually it's either royal blue, green, teal, and purple. Lately I've also been on a kick for golden yellows!

Making my way back!
Sorry for vanishing for the last few months! I've been really busy and going through a lot offline (mainly battling my insurance to get them to cover top surgery at the surgeon I wanted, not one of their bad in-network ones). The good thing is, I won against insurance, I'm getting top surgery later this year, and while I've still got busy stuff happening offline, things are at least getting less hectic. I kind of took a break from some of my online spaces for a bit (dA included) but I'll be popping on regularly again and working to clear out my 8000+ messages...(most are from groups so it's not quite as bad as it sounds).
Thank you for beari
Seeking designs
So pride month is fast approaching, and I'm looking to add to my collection of pride-colored designs! I have a few bi-colored designs, but nothing with the nonbinary colors yet.
I'm looking for:
-designs with bi pride or nonbinary pride colors (design doesn't have to be labeled/intended to be a pride design, as long as it matches the color scheme pretty well I'll be happy)
-animal designs (either feral or anthro, can also be fantasy or one-off designs)
-preferably premade designs, but I might consider customs
-has marking shapes that look "natural" (for example, tiger stripes or leopard spots rather than hearts)
I'm NOT looking for:

Cosmic Portrait Commissions [one slot - OPEN]
Hey all!
I had a blast making my most recent piece, and I'd like to do more. For now, I'm only opening one slot at a time since I will be moving at an indefinite point in the next few months and things might go haywire. A slot is available for $25 USD via Paypal. If you want two characters, it'd be $35. The finished piece would look similar to the image below - it will feature a headshot of your character. They will be surrounded by stars and nebulas (colors/mood of your choosing), will fade into the background and have stars within them like a constellation. They can be exhaling stars and/or nebulas if you'd like, though I don't want to dra

how do you get longer strands? I untwist it before brushing it out but the tufts only are 2-3 inches max is there a specific yarn or technique you use to get longer tufts of say 4-6 inches long?
